Back
in the 1960s, Little Havana originated as the home
to many Cuban exiles. The community prospered and
the Cuban population eventually moved to other parts
of Miami. Traces of the Cuban presence, however, can
still be found in some of the original businesses
found on SW 8th Street. El Credito
Cigars, a leading tobacco factory located in the
heart of Little Havana, is as much a historic
landmark as it is a thriving business. Whether you’re
a cigar connoisseur or just curious about the craft,
a visit to El Credito Cigars is sure to be quite an
experience.
With
the exception of a faded Spanish sign that reads
"Established in Havana, Cuba in 1907," the
simple structure is barely recognizable. But beyond
the shabby exterior, visitors can witness
world-class cigar making in the old Cuban tradition.
A family-owned business, El Credito
produces top
quality handmade cigars including the distinguished
brand, La Gloria Cubana. The secret behind this
tradition of excellence lies within the unique
special blend in each brand and the perfectionist
attitude in each worker. Most of the workers are
Cubans who had mastered the art of rolling tobacco
back in the old country. In the Cuban custom, each
cigar is entirely and carefully crafted by the same
person. The result of this individual attention is
simply an outstanding product with a rich flavor,
recognized as one of the best by several
aficionados.
El
Credito Cigars claims to offer the next best thing
to a genuine Cuban cigar for a great price. Cigars
are sold individually or by the masses at both
wholesale and retail cost. Try the highly
recommended Wavell cigar from the La Gloria Cubana
brand.
El
Credito Cigars is located in Little
Havana, just
west of Downtown Miami, on 8th Street. To
get to the factory from I95 southbound, exit on SW 7th
Street and head west. Turn left on 12th
Avenue and make an immediate left onto SW 8th
Street. (SW 8th Street is a one-way
street at this point.) The Factory will be on your
right-hand side just before you reach 11th
Avenue. Parking is available along the street.
