Often referred to as “City Beautiful”, Coral Gables is an area of secluded neighborhoods, graceful parks, tree-lined streets, and majestic gardens and fountain pools that evoke images of Spain, Italy, New England and Dutch South Africa. Many of the city’s architectural districts and buildings are preserved as historical landmarks. Among the more notable sites are: Coral Gables City Hall (1927); The Douglas Road Entrance, an ornate street entrance to Coral Gables, reflecting the Mediterranean style that Miami Coral Gables--Venitian Pool pervades here; and the Venetian Pool, a tribute to the Old World city, complete with genuine Italian architecture. Coral Gables is also the site of the University of Miami (1926).

City Beautiful is a haven for the arts. The Lowe Art Museum, located in the University of Miami, displays temporary exhibits from both local and international artists. In addition, on the first Friday of every month between 7:30 and 10pm the Coral Gables Gallery Association sponsors Gables Gallery Night, a free walking and shuttle-bus tour of the area’s 22 art galleries.

The city has plenty of shopping opportunities, the primary spots for which are Miracle Mile and Downtown Coral Gables. Located on Coral Way between Jeune Road and Douglas Road, this Miami Coral Gables -- Miracle Mile shopping district offers everything from exclusive designer boutiques to major department stores, all lining a beautiful red-brick street.

Coral Gables has an abundance of restaurants, serving Floribbean, New World, Continental, Cuban, American, Chinese and a multitude of other cuisines. Many restaurants here have been given four- and five-star ratings by several national magazines.

The nightlife in Coral Gables reflects the elegance that is this community’s trademark. Along with a fantastic meal, folks can enjoy cool jazz in an intimate supper club, hear stories of Gables’ past at the Biltmore Hotel or listen to poetry and prose in eclectic bookstores, among many other things.
